NEXX

NEXXWe’d been lucky enough to see Nexx at their Gods debut performance a few years ago, back in the days when The Gods were still held in Maximes. At that time they were bright, they were bubbly, and rock-pop pixie Patricia had more energy than the ever-ready bunny.

Today the band had returned to share with us their debut album on the Now & Then label. For all it was the same faces we saw before us it was as if 5 years had passed because what we had here today were a band that had matured to such a high status is such a very short space of time.

Gone was the sugar sweet Euro-rock we’d witnessed at their earlier Gods performance, and in its place we had before us a band who had worked so hard to ensure their set was nothing less than highly professional and ultra polished.

Winning the hearts of every male in the room we had to lovely Patricia belting home song after song with crystal clear quality and reaching notes others can only dream of. But it wasn’t just the males in the audience who she appeals to. She has such a warm friendly nature without being predatorial that she wins over the females too.

Put it this way, Patricia has more talent and sex appeal than pop icon Kylie could ever dream of. For her it comes natural and she has that certain something that all the spin doctors in the world could not create. She may be small in stature, but by god she’s got one hell of a voice on her. Indeed she will go far, be that with Nexx or branching out as a solo artist, she has the talent and she has it by the bucket load.

The band did a couple of cracking cover versions of Harem Scarem’s ‘Killing Me’ and that old Kansas favourite ‘Carry On My Wayward Son’. They had chosen their covers carefully and they carried them off well. I suppose they days they did mainly covers have taught them well what they can achieve with the right song.

Danny Vaughn joined the band onstage for a few songs which little did we know would be the start of the Danny Vaughn does it all show. Indeed when Patricia said that this was their last song a very loud and very audible ‘Aw’ came out from the male mass at large. So loud was it that you couldn’t help but have a little snigger.

All that running around on the spot while bouncing up and down had certainly endeared her to a huge percentage of the CD buying punters here today. The very fact she was then seen shortly afterwards signing the many CD’s for these doe-eyed young men spoke volumes. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that CD sold more copies than any other that day!

Thankfully the rest of the band are all good natured chaps and didn’t seem to mind the fact that it’s was Patricia a lot of people would remember from today’s performance than any of them. I think that is one of the many things that makes Nexx special, they all love their music and none of them are in it for the ego trip.

I think out of all the bands we saw play this weekend; the prize for most impressive performance has to go to Nexx. Their performance was nothing less than exhilarating to watch.
