Band: Sign
Venue: The Junction, York
Date: 28 May 2008

On the back of their recent successful support slot for Wednesday 13, it was Bitchin' Rock Promotions who decided to detain these rock n' roll renegades a little longer on these shores by offering them an extension to their tour with a few headline slots.  When we heard about this extension we were, as always, more than up for a trip out to reviewing these Icelandic rockers and took it upon ourselves to venture down the A1 to York to check out the band once more.

The Junction is a venue nestled on the outskirts of York's city walls and offers a reasonable sized venue for bands to play.  This was my first visit to this particular venue and I wouldn’t be avert to returning to check out more bands here in future.

The band did have two support acts on with them tonight, one good and one not so good, but we didn’t come down to judge them we came down to catch up with the guys from Sign and see them perform their hard edged rock n' roll once more.

The band came out of the darkness with their usual exuberance, with guitarists mingling with the crowd as Zolberg and the rest of the guys opened up their account with ‘Hold Me Alive’, then continued going by launching straight into ‘Dancin In’.  A real crowd pleaser that heralded a few heads bobbing and a some raised fists pounding along in support.

Tonight the band were keeping the chit chat down to a minimal as they continued to rock the house with ‘What You Don’t Know’ and the superb ‘Thank God For Silence’, which prompted an impromptu sing-a-long from the rapidly increasing Sign Army down stage front.

This all out rocking never stopped as the band carried on with the thumping ‘Misguided’, a song about being different and being proud of the fact.  This is where Zolberg really puts all the passion and energy into his vocals with brother Eagle pounding out the back beat with A.D. just whipping up a bearded storm on guitar.

The band showed their more gentle side with the ballad like ‘Moveless’, a haunting melody that starts of slowly with just Zolberg’s vocal before the rest of the band join in on this wonderfully soulful song.

This was only a short reprise as the band treated us to the title track of the next album ‘I Lost Myself’, yet another wonderful rollercoaster of a song from the boys.  If this is the type of song on the new material then I can't wait for the next album.

It was back to the 'Waiting For Silence' album for ‘A Little Bit’ before rounding off with the bands own storming version of Skid Rows ‘Youth Gone Wild’.

The band left the stage only for a few moments before returning to round off another exhilarating set proper with ‘When Demons Win’, another showstopper.

This band are a must see.  Whether it's as support or headliners this band have it all and believes in giving 110% in what they do.  I’m sure it won't be long before they're back on these shores for some more shows and I can guarantee I’ll be there for a few ... and so should you!
