Artist: The Rasmus Venue: Rock City, Nottingham Date: 28 August 2004 |
| Tonight
Rock City plays host to Finland's new found stars (well new to the UK at
least), The Rasmus. Although they’ve been about since the late
90s it’s the release of the album 'Dead Letters' that has seen them
propelled into superstardom throughout most of Europe this year. Opening for them are Happy Life who have joined them for a couple of support slots on this tour. With the demand to see the main band the queue around the venue was vast. This was mainly due to the fact that this was a 14 year plus gig and the excitement of youth being what it is, many had been waiting outside the venue for hours before the doors were actually due to open. The doors opened a little late thus leading to delays in getting everyone inside before Happy Life went on stage. I myself missed the first few tracks because of this as no doubt a lot of other people who were behind me in the queue also did. But the couple of tracks off their debut album that I did hear impressed me and they’re definitely one to look out for in the future. The younger members of the crowd definitely seemed to enjoy their set and screamed their lungs out in a way usually reserved for pop boy bands. When The Rasmus hit the stage the noise of over 1500 screaming teenagers was immense it's just as well the recent sound proofing to the roof of the venue was finished in time for the gig! Opening up with 'First Day of My Life' that went down a storm, as did the next track and current single 'Guilty' and they just got better as the night went on. As well as playing many tracks off
the 'Dead Letters' album including the track that got them noticed in
this country 'In The Shadows', they also played tracks off their
previous albums which also went down really well. With the vocals
of Lauri being true to the albums and the rest of the band were also on
cracking form. |
