Artist:  Stolen Sun, Get Vegas & The Lurios

The Georgian Theatre at Stockton is a strange venue indeed.  It is like having bands play in someone’s backyard ... only this back yard has a roof.  Yet despite this it still seems to attract some quality national and local talent, on tonight’s bill the three bands fall into the latter.

All three bands tonight have very different sounds and show the diversity of the music scene in and around Stockton.

First band up tonight are The Lurios.  A band that have been taking a break from gigging since their one of their guitarist went to Uni, but apparently he's has decided the rock n roll road instead of the academic one appeals to him more and has returned to the fold.

The Lorius sound is very 'Happy Mondays' and would fit well into that whole Manchester scene.  All four members of the band are very competent musicians who I'm confident would go down well at Uni gigs.

The second band on tonight are another local band who as their bio proclaims "... we ain't doing something new, we ain't what you want us to be. We’re the rock revival. We’re Get Vegas..." and they are the surprise package on tonight’s bill. These are four young guys who look barely old enough to be allowed into the venue, never mind play on its stage, but who deliver rock n' roll with all the energy of youth.  With the right image could go a very long way but somehow I don’t think that they realise that just yet.

The tracks that really caught my attention tonight were ‘I Wanna Know’, ‘Friday Night’, and Break it Down’.  The rest of the set wasn’t too shabby either but these three tracks really did it for me.  It’s a pity that they didn’t have any demo cd’s available at the gig as I for one would have gladly purchased one.  Well maybe next time, and believe me I will be checking them out again. 

The third band tonight and the main reason for the visit to Stockton are the awesome rockers Stolen Sun.  A band that I first caught late last year when they played The Studio at Hartlepool in support of Kid Ego.  I was very impressed with the way they went about their business, with a ballsy rock sound very reminiscent of The Almighty, with a touch of AC/DC thrown in for good measure.

Would tonight’s performance live up to my expectations? I should say so, from the off they went straight for the kill with ‘I Want You’, a track that oozes class and is straight up rock n roll.  This grabbed the crowds immediate attention and from then on in they could do no wrong.

The set continued with both guitarists Polo and Gav just ripping out riff after momentous riff on ‘I Breath It’.  Then the pace was slowed down just a couple of notches with ‘You Really Got A Hold On Me’, another very classy song.

Even their cover of Thin Lizzy’s ‘Are You Ready To Rock’ was given the Stolen Sun raunchiness and breathed new life into the song.

Other songs of note have to be the excellent ‘Stone Cold Evil’ with is very bluesy rock undertones, and my favourite Stolen Sun track to date ‘One Bullet Left’.

I’ve seen the band now on two occasions and both times the have really impressed me.  So much so that I have pencilled in at least two more dates to go see them again over the next couple of months.  If you like your rock with no holds barred then you won't go far wrong by checking out these guys.
