As legends rock legends go you won't see them much bigger on the humble stage of Trillians than the mighty Pete Way.  Tonight he brings his merry band Waysted to Newcastle, but tonight is a little bit extra in the Waysted package as well as Fin Muir on vocals and Paul Haslin on drums, stepping in at the last minute to cover for Chris George was none other than guitar legend Robin George (same name, but strangely no relation!).

There was no support act scheduled for this show but with this line-up to look forward to, the near capacity Trillians crowd have only come to see Way and the boys, so anything else would have been a waste of good drinking time before the main event.

The band came on stage around 9.30 pm and had an immediate impact on the crowd, as the band went straight to work with ‘The Alternativa’ from the bands 'Back From The Dead' opus.  With Fin looking rather dapper dressed in a white jacket embossed with several Waysted logos and making a rare appearance was the famed spiders web t-shirt.

The set continued with a funky bass and bluesy guitar intro from Way and George respectively of ‘Dead On Your Legs’, which received rapturous applause from the throngs that had come out tonight.  I tell you I haven’t seen Trillians this packed for a rock show for quite some time.

The band went on with a song that Fin explained was about dodgy relationships, the excellent ‘Toys With The Passion’.  By this time Fin was obviously feeling the heat as off came the jacket.  The band was now in full flow as the set continued with ‘Hang Em High’ before slowing things down a tad with ‘Dreams’.

Then Fin introduced Robin, who to be honest needed no introduction, as Fin persuaded the crowd to join him into baiting Robin into singing a few lines of ‘Heartline’, which he eventually obliged and got a rousing cheer for his efforts.

With Fin and Way interacting so well on stage this seemed to add to the whole atmosphere of the show.  As they went into what has to be the bands most remembered song ‘Heaven Tonight’, the song got as big a cheer as Robins rendition of ‘Heartline’.

Then it was time for the tongue and cheek side of the band as Fin tells the tale of how the next song ‘Breakfast Show’ came about as he and Way were watching early morning TV one day and said ... "we could do that and we could call it TDTV - Two Drunks on TV".

This night of good time rock n' roll continued with ‘Garden Of Eden’, another from the 'Back From The Dead' release, then it was back to the bands 1984 album ‘You Wont Get Out Alive’ for the title track, and a great song was once again given the live show it deserved.

Next up it was time for a couple of covers to end a splendid set.  Firstly the Everly Brothers ‘The Price of Love’, before the band put its own spin of the Alex Harvey classic ‘Framed’, which rounded off a great night and ended a run of three excellent nights at Trillians.  Something that this great rock venue and its more mature clientele have been longing for.
