The
O2 (previously known as The Point) is based in Dublin’s docklands area
about 2 miles from the City centre. However on the 18/04/09, the
O2 seemed to blend into the city due to the amount of rockers around.
The city was hopping and one of the most well known rock pubs in town
(namely Bruxelles) was jammers. The pub was ready for the crowd as
they played an old AC/DC concert and there was a feeling of camaraderie
between all drinkers!! The
O2 was full to capacity (approx 16k – I think!!). The tickets
sold out within hours of their release in Oct 08. It was like having the
golden ticket for Charlies Chocolate Factory. Northern
Irelands ‘The Answer’ played support, and although I was busy at the
bar while they played, they seemed to get a good reception. And
then there was rock……AC/DC hit the stage at 9pm. What a set.
What seemed to be a full sized steam train roared onto the stage. It
looked wicked. Mind you, a band like AC/DC don’t need any
gimmicks to make them look good. They opened the show with 'Rock
And Roll Train' and I can happily say that the crowd went bananas.
Brian Johnson’s voice is in great condition and the rest of the band
looked truly relaxed. The continued with
And
then came Thunder Struck. At this point I had tears in my eyes. It was
sooooo bleedin deadly (as they say in Dublin). The crowd sang, jumped,
screamed etc….
In
between all these, Angus managed to fit in a glorious guitar solo and a
strip tease!!. I don’t know how he (or his knees) kept going,
but he did, and he was great. As the cannons went off at the end
(11pm), the crowd were utterly bollixed. I can only imagine how
the band felt!! All I can say is that you’d be mad to miss out on this show. Bring your grannies, kids, dogs etc, as who knows if the likes of this will ever be seen again. It was truly a shit hot night. Review by: Janice |
