Artist: Crimes Of Passion & Point Blank Fury

Venue:  The Corporation, Sheffield

Date:  28 November 2009

With this the third gig in four days and another extended road trip from Bradford to Sheffield, we endorse the use of energy drinks to keep you going while also endorsing that we at the Mayfair Mall fully endorse supporting the live music scene!

So what makes us carry on this road trip? Well our good friends Crimes Of Passion invited us to come and see them at a local venue, and a sold out gig at that!  We arrive at the venue just as Birmingham’s Point Blank Fury, the second of a three bands on tonight, were hitting the stage.  So we firmly ensconced ourselves near the side stage wall to witness these old school rockers give one hell of a show.

The band led by Rob delivered hard edge rock with huge bass lines courtesy of Bate, with a twin guitar assault courtesy of Dale and Dani, all against the pounding back beat supplied by Russ on drums.

This band definitely delivers a punch with some outstanding old school rock with song like ‘Change Tomorrow’ and ‘Ashes’ and Paradise’, and in true hard rock tradition leaving the best to last the outstanding ‘Night Skies’, which even managed to induce a mosh pit just inches away from us, definitely a band worth checking out.

Now on to the main event local gigs always are something special to bands and tonight the sold out crowd made Crimes Of Passion very welcome and hailed them as local heroes.  I've seen the band on numerous occasions and time after time they have always put on a hell of a show and tonight they kept that ball rolling over big style.

With the intro ‘A Thousand Strong’ getting things underway the band continued with ‘Die Alone’.  The band were an instant hit with the fans as Dale Radcliffe and his larger than life persona lead the band as only he can.

The hard rocking just kept on coming in tsunami style metal waves with ‘The Me I Lost’, with Andy Lindsay in superb form as usual with the powerhouse backing of Kev Tonge on drums and Simon Fearn on bass duties.

The band do have their mellower moments and one of those moments was next with the excellent ‘Dream Of Me’, before bringing it back up with the tremendous ‘Careful What You Wish For’.  A newish track that will hopefully feature on the bands new album when it comes around, because particular song is a real barnstormer of a song.  Next up was one of my favourites from the band, the superb ‘Exit Wound'.  A track I will never get tired of hearing, both live and on CD.

The band continued to wow the crowd with great melodic metal moments like ‘Fight You On My Own’ and ‘Unbreakable’, although it was the likes of ‘God Made Me Your Angel’ and ‘Breathless And Beautiful’ that seemed to send the crowd into raptures, before rounding the set off with ‘Pretty In Blood’, inciting near riots to the proceedings.

The band left the stage for a moment before returning for an encore in the shape of the Dio classic ‘Holy Diver’, which rounded off a great night and one that made the trip down well worth it.

I’ve only one thing to say and that's that I think the band have now outgrown The Corporation and should be eyeing up a major support slot to take them that step further to rock stardom.
