Artist: Decadenze & Havana Rocks

Venue:  The gasworks, Bradford

Date: 13 June 2009

What better way to spend the weekend than checking out a new venue and a new band.  The venue The Gasworks which has only recently moved to a larger location after being housed in a nearby underground pub.  The band Decadenze, a band we caught only a musical glimpse of recently at Trillians Rock Bar in Newcastle and thought they were worth checking out again.

Well the new improved Gasworks is a far better venue for bands, the capacity must be around 1000+ and with a larger stage and a vast seated area, the venue is what Bradford has been crying out for since the close of Rio’s, but enough about the venue now the bands.

First up tonight were Havana Rocks who did just that, this four piece from Huddersfield are old school through and through, right from the music to their on stage persona’s.

The band rocked from the opener ‘Need For Speed’ which had that Helix air about it and frontman Andy certainly has the pipes on him, while guitarist Tony had a definite Slash style guitar play as they continued to impress with ‘Animal In Me’ and the GNR like ‘All You People’.

The bands no hold barred rock certainly went down well with those who caught them and despite that it being Download weekend, those who did venture out were certainly given a show.  The band were definitely going all out as they kept the pace going with the excellent ‘Bad Boy Blues’, which was one of the many highlights of their set.

This band is well worth checking out if you like your old school hard rock because these guys have it in spades.

Now Decadenze who after just five songs at Trillians in Newcastle impressed us enough to come back for a second helping of their rock.  Tonight on a bigger stage and with a headline slot as part of a 50 date, yes 50-date tour!, they really were the polished act they hinted at in Newcastle.

The band led by lead signer Chris Edge really were firing on all six as they opened up in fine style with ‘Throw It Away’.  This was good at Trillians but here it really was something rather special.  Whether is was the relaxed attitude, the great sound or the big stage, the band seemed to be really enjoying themselves here tonight, especially Steve Edge on bass and Phil Haycock on guitar as they just seemed to be lapping up every minute, which was great to see.

The set really rocked and with the driving guitar solo’s from Edge and Adam Dive the tempo never eased.

With top notch rockers like 'Take It Or Leave It’, the harder edged 'Tomorrow Is Too Late',

the thumping rocker ‘Shoot Me High’ and the great ‘Sadist’, the band were really on fire here tonight and vocalist Chris Edge seemed really confident and comfortable in his role, as his vocals were crystal clear and full of energy, something you sadly rarely find in such a young vocalist.

The band were so confident they even included a new song in their set tonight ‘Our Final Day’, a really great hard rock song, before really picking things up with the superb ‘Breakaway’, with both guitarist really igniting the fret boards on this one.

The band rounded off a great set with ‘Dragging Me Down’, which ended a great set from a band that are destined for bigger and better things and like Havana Rocks, I would highly recommend you check them out believe me you wont be disappointed.
