Artist: Eden's Curse

Venue:  The Corporation, Sheffield

Date: 7 December 2009

Every since their insurgency on the Rock world back in 2004 Eden’s Curse have sent ripples of anticipation around the community, and when their self-titled debut release saw the light of day the ripples turned into tides.  When their second release entitled ' The Second Coming' these tides invoked a tsunami, even though the band hadn’t played live together.  It was only when they toured with Stratovarius and Firewind that the rumour mill finally ended as Paul Logue, Michael Eden, Pete Newdeck, Ferdy Doernberg and Thorsten Koehne, joined by guest second guitar Jay Parmar, took to the UK stages and blew the crowds away with storming set after storming set, earlier this year.

And now in December the band have returned to these shows this time on what can be only described as a mix bag of bands, comprising Eden's Curse together with Alestorm and The Rotted.  Like the other bands Eden’s Curse were trying to break the mould and bring their music to a wider audience and one that probably haven’t heard anything from the band before.

We made the long trek back down to Sheffield to the Corporation, not one of my favourite venues but when the Mohamed won't come to the Mountain, the Mountain comes to Mohamed.

Well was the trip worth it? You bet it was!  The gig was in the larger of the two rooms, which I had secretly hoped for as the smaller of the rooms at the Corp wouldn’t have done any of the bands on tonight any justice.

Eden’s Curse got the night off to a storming start as the opened up their account with the superb ‘Masquerade Ball’, instantly winning over the vast majority of the crowd from the off and even inducing a mosh pit!

It was all system go from here on in as they continued to produce the goods with’ Eyes Of The World’ with the twin guitar assault of Koehne and Parmar firing on all six, whilst Eden pushed thru with some stunning vocals, with the stalwart rhythm section of Logue and Newdeck keeping it all in check, while the new guy Alessandro Del Vecchio showed us just why he got the keyboard role with some magical keyboards.

The band kept it going with the excellent ‘Ravens Revenge’ and the superb ‘Fly Away’.  Again the crowd were right behind the band, so it was clear that the gamble of playing with a mix bag of bands was working out well, as they showed their appreciation for a band worthy of the headline slot.

With the likes of ‘Lost In Wonderland’ and 'Don’t Bring Me Down’ bringing out the best in Koehne as he just burned up the six string, the best was yet to come as the band rounded their short but very impressive set with ‘Games People Play’ and the highlight of the night for me ‘Angels Of Demons’.  During which Alessandro gave Eden a run for his money on the vocals as he sang the Pamela Moore parts of the song and gave the song a whole new feel which was just phenomenal.

The band had intended for their set to end there, but cheers for more saw the band return to put the cherry on top of the cake with their version of ‘We All Die Young’ taken from the Rockstar movie.  The song may have been entitled 'We All Die Young’ but tonight we all lived a little more, as one of the best live bands I’ve seen once again produced the goods.
