Artist: Primordial

Venue:  Button Factory, Dublin

Date:  24 January 2009

My first gig of 2009 was a great great Irish Band.  Primordial have been on the go since 1991 and have been on a path to success over the years.  I would class them as Pagan Metal, but there are a lot of different elements to the Band, so it is difficult to put a label on them.  They have a mix of killer riffs, powerful vocals and passionate lyrics.  The gig in the Button Factory was being recorded for an up and coming DVD, so the atmosphere was electric.  I think everyone in the place personally knows someone in the band, so it felt like a family get together, however everyone afforded the band a huge amount of respect as soon as they hit the stage.

The band did a number of songs from the 2007 album 'To The Nameless Dead' as well as their previous album 'The Gathering Wilderness'. After listening to these songs over the last year, it was amazing to hear them played live.

There was plenty of chat between the band and the crowd and the gig seemed to fly by. I can’t wait to see the DVD!! If you are to try some new music this year, please try Primordial, you won't be disappointed.
