Artist: Saxon & Doro

Venue:  Academy, Dublin

Date: 27 April 2009

Although I like Saxon, and have seen them before, my main reason for going tonight was to see Doro. I have been a Warlock fan for a long time but have never managed to catch them live.

As Saxon pull a good crowd in Dublin, the venue was almost full when Doro hit the stage. My god, what a petit lady!! She was dressed up in her signature leather and from the reaction of my better half, she obviously looked good!!

The crowd warmed to Doro very quickly. This was due to her great attitude, great music and great voice. Although I am not familiar with some of her newer material, she pleased the crowd by singing 'True As Steel', 'Burning The Witches' and 'All We Are'.

Her band are great, they are good musicians and are happy to let Doro take centre stage (where she belongs). I would definitely go to see her as a headline act and look forward to seeing her in Dublin again.

Saxon seemed a little stiff when they arrived on stage. I got the impression that they were just going through the motions, particularly as they had played a few gigs on the trot.  However, around the 3rd or 4th song, Biff made a bit of a cock up at the start of the song.  He had a good laugh about it with the audience and from then on the band was on fire!!

Biff sweated buckets; mind you he still looked great and his voice is perfect. Although he doesn’t throw himself around the stage, he does manage a bit of jumping and headbanging.

The band sound great and they really have a strong set list that will appeal to all fans. This is my third time seeing them and I have to say that it was their best performance in Dublin yet.

Saxon setlist: Battallion, Heavy Metal Thunder, Sweeney Todd , Ride Like The Wind (yes it is a cover!!), Witch Finder, Strong Arm Of The Law, Valley Of The Kings, Band Played On, Rock Of Ages, Dallas 1pm, Never Surrender, Wheels Of Steel, Live To Rock, Motorcycle Man, Crusader, 747 (Strangers In The Night), Denim And Leather.
