Artist: Silverjet & Dear Superstar

Venue:  The Corporation, Sheffield

Date: 4 April 2009

A three hundred mile round trip down to Sheffield for a night out might to some seem a little extreme but when you’ve got four bands performing for a little as five pounds then the trip seems well worth it.

The Corporation has become the home for Sheffield’s finest Silverjet and judging by the crowd, the band have gathered in a lot of people, who like me, also rate the band very highly.

But as I said there were four bands on tonight and we arrived midway through the opening band Society Crisis’s set, who delivered a hard rocking start to the night.  Next up were glam stalwarts The Sweethearts, a band with more hair than the majority of the crowd put together tonight.

The band came across as a mix between The New York Dolls and Wrathchild and delivered a set which went down well with the majority of the crowd.  They're definitely a band I would like to see performing again live.

The main reason for the trip down was to be honest the two main bands, the first of these being Dear Superstar, a band I’ve caught on several occasions now and one that still impresses. The blend of Pop Metal and Hardcore riffs make these guys a modern day Lost Prophets.  A truly kick-ass band with a fantastic frontman in Micky, who can really pump up a crowd and get them going and who was very much up for the show again tonight.

The bands short but impressive set really gave the nigh on capacity crowd an extra boost of adrenalin with the likes of ‘Live Love Lie’ and  ‘Brothers In Blood’, which were just two of the many highlights for me here tonight.  I would have loved the band to have done a longer set, but maybe next time.

Now on to Silverjet, a band who are without a doubt have one of the hardest work ethics of all the young bands around today in the UK.  The majority of the crowd had come along to see this the band's first show of 2009 and they weren’t disappointed, as Dave Kerr and the rest of the band pumped out some damn fine Hard Rock, opening up their account in fine style with ‘Crazy’.

One thing that has changed since I last saw the band is the addition of a new bass player Liam Hill, who I must say seemed extremely comfortable in the band.  The band really were on fire tonight as they powered through the set with ‘By The Way’, ‘Hell Yeah’ and my own personal favourite ‘Mardigras’.

The crowd just love this band and as I looked round the room I could see that all but a few were singing along with Kerr to every song.

Tonight the band were really firing on all six including the bluesy ‘Broken’, which sounded superb and ‘Just Another Rock Show’, which again never sounded so good.

The set was full throttle 'Jet at their best and rounding things off with ‘Face To Face’, which really left the crowd buzzing.

When you see bands like Silverjet giving their all and not getting the breaks they deserve, it’s always great to put on a home town show and get a full house of fans right behind you.  It must make all that hard work worthwhile.  Well done to all the bands who played here tonight, all told it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening of great rock n' roll music and an energy packed atmosphere.
