Artist: Lacuna Coil Venue: The Academy, Dublin Date: 29 January 2010 |

It
has been 4 years since Lacuna Coil have visited Dublin, so it was
obvious that the gig was going to be a sell-out. The venue was nicely
full and from the amount of different Irish accents around, a lot of
people had traveled to see these Italians. The gig started just after
8.30 (which is a condition of the venue!!). The band just seemed to
arrive on stage, with no major fanfare, and I think the audience we
taken by surprise. As a result, it took about 10 minutes for the crowd
to really get going (during which time the band played 'Survive',
'Underdog' and 'Closer')……….and then they took off!!! Lacuna Coil are a wonderful live band. The have a real family atmosphere on stage and aesthetically they look great. Although their bassist Marco wasn’t here, apparently he was at home in Italy with a shoulder injury!! This didn’t seem to impact on their performance however. Christina brings it to the table for the lads and there is plenty eye candy for the girls too!! However it is through their music that their true talents are revealed. Christina’s
voice is very powerful and she is well able to hit all the high notes
(no dubbing here!!). The
band proceeded to throw out the hits including: 'Fragments
of Faith', 'Tight
Rope' and 'Senzafine'
(get your tissues out!!). It is so good to hear them sing this song in
their home language. 'I
Won't Tell You' was
followed by the stonking 'Heaven's
A Lie' – a song which could get a convent rocking!!! The
remainder of the set covered 'Fragile', 'Wide Awake', 'To The Edge',
'The Maze', 'Daylight Dancer' and of course 'Enjoy The Silence'. After the usual oh-lay, oh-lay, oh-lay chants the band came back on for, 'Not Enough' and 'Spellbound'. They finished with 'Our Truth' which was pure rock. The whole night just proved that Lacuna Coil are truly alive on stage and a pleasure to watch. Come back soon… Review by: Janice |
