| Plenty
of spandex and false mullet wigs were on display for this gig at a
packed Academy, and the crowd were treated to the support act of The
Sirens, a group of 3 ex Fuel Girls with a hot burlesque type show
accompanied by some nu-metal tunes which went down particularly
well with the men in the audience. (including your correspondent!) Steel Panther are undoubtedly the best 'comedy' band since Spinal Tap were at their peak, and kicked off their set with the fist-pumping signature anthem 'Eyes of A Panther', which was accompanied by an elongated comedy ending, bassist Lexxi Foxxxx and guitarist Satchel "machine gunning" every section of the audience with their guitars for a good 5 minutes! Although the band only have one album out they stretched the gig out to 2 hours long with lots of crowd and in-band banter, my favourite part being Lexxi Foxxx's revelation (in between his constant application of hairspray and lip gloss!) that he loves heavy metal so much that he would "leave it in the car AND wind all the windows down on a hot day!" The comedy interplay was fantastic, especially between Lexxi and Satchel, little things like the pair of them both fighting for the same microphone during the same song were comedy gold!
Setlist: Eyes of A Panther, Fat Girl (Thar She Blows), Hell's On Fire, Party All Day, Eatin Aint Cheatin, Stripper Girl, Turn Out The Lights, Asian Hooker, Girl From Oaklahoma, I Want Pussy, Community Property, The Shocker, Death To All But Metal. Encore: Shout At The Devil, Youth Gone Wild, Paradise City. Review by: Dan |
