Myself
(Seb Di Gatto) and Alison
Bear made the trip over to Bury to see in the New Year with our
favourite band and people, Fury UK. Really love
the Hark to Towler Pub / Rock venue, as it is everything you could want
in a Rock Bar, with reasonable priced beer, lovely attentive bar staff
and it is festooned with Metal / Rock memorabilia.
We
arrived an hour before the gig and there
was already a healthy crowd inside. We went to the merch stall
and I bought the new European tour shirt and a beanie ... all for under
twenty quid, what a bargain!
Fury
UK have recently returned
from their very successful European Tour supporting Iced Earth, and
were ready to blast away everyone in their local area ... and they did not
disappoint at all.
Playing
two sets and in total twenty Fury UK songs, before returning after
midnight to play some
covers, these guys made our first New Year’s Eve out for a very long time, into
a very special
night, that will live in our memories for a hell of a long time, (and all for £6), what an absolute treat we all had.
Fury
UK took to the stage with all the energy and enthusiasm we so love
about this band. Playing nearly every song bar
one from the excellent album
' A Way of Life' , this was intense and riveting
stuff. Starting off with the intro, Fury UK ripped into 'I See Red', then the
magnificent 'Fall From
Grace', before the spectacular 'Alien Skies'. They soon had the crowd
warmed up, singing and dancing to this feast of Metal heaven.
Chris ,
Luke and Martin put so much energy into
every show and were rocking the Towler to its foundations as 'Runaway From No One' ,
' Saviour' and ' The
Remainder', led up to
our personal and crowd favourite 'Nemesis'.
This song has to be one of my all-time favourite songs ever, and
that’s coming from a metal head of twenty years plus!
'Show of
Force' and 'Athena' finished off
the 'A Way Of Life' part of the set, as
the band cracked into the brilliant 'Salvation' E.P. We brought this
album at the Michel Schenker gig in Newcastle and it will always hold
fond memories for us, as this was the night we first saw and heard this
truly outstanding band. They blew Schenker off the stage and they
turned a disappointing night into a memorable evening that will never
be forgotten. Blasting
into 'Salvation' and the intense 'Manslaughter', which led into Martin McNee’s awesome
drum-solo
and the final E.P track 'Lost in Forever'.
Next
we were into the excellent 'Krueger'
from their debut album 'Face Of Adversity'. Things slowed down for
an acoustic version of 'Outpost', which was truly beautiful. Brilliant guitar
work and Chris
and Luke’s vocals were just amazing. These guys are so talented. The lads
played the majority of the brilliant 'VR' album and we were treat to the
title track, before 'Playing With Violence' and the Metal anthem 'Brotherhood'.
The next track was my second
favourite Fury UK song, 'Call To Arms'!

'Death by Lightning'
was magnificent, with Chris Appleton again demonstrating his
total mastery of the guitar.
How long before he reaches Guitar God status??? ... Many a beer had
been consumed by now! A loud cheer erupted as this set finished and
Midnight approached. The New Year was welcomed in and unlike the usual drunken idiotic back
slapping fest you get at non-metal New Year’s Eve parties, this was all
done in a very drunken, happy,
adult manner. Then our
heroes returned to play some covers including Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden
and AC/DC.
Then at some
point I head butted Luke’s guitar and collapsed on the floor in
stitches as Luke somehow managed to carry on whilst in fits of laughter.
The night ended with the band getting plenty of well
deserved glasses of Jager and copious amounts
of other alcoholic beverages to
end the night of Nights …
Thank
you so much Fury UK and the Fury UK
family, for making everything you do so amazing and out of this world.
You guys deserve superstardom, you are Metal Gods! |
And
thank you awesome “Hark To Towler” staff and the lovely landlady for
always being so genuinely nice and welcoming. You guys truly ROCK!!!
So
Happy New Year and let’s
see Fury UK getting more and more success, as these lads deserve all the
accolades and total respect from the Metal world, and beyond.
