MM - What was your initial intention for the new album?
AA -
Actually, Frontiers Records initialised the project. They got in touch
with my manager and asked if I would be interested in doing such a thing
using two lead singers (Paul Laine of Danger Danger and David Readman of
Pink Cream 69), and as I had some spare time at that moment thought that
doing this record, which is a bit different from my work with Royal
Hunt, could be fun ... so I agreed.
MM - At what point did you decide to use two vocalists on the project?
AA - Almost
from the beginning the idea looked appealing to me.
MM -
How did you get both Paul Laine and Dave Readman
interested in working on the project?
AA - Well,
I had a bunch of songs suitable for each one of them, the record company
were going strongly behind the project, and as I understood both guys
liked what I wrote ... so it wasn’t difficult.
MM -
How hard was it to keep the songs to under five
minutes and lose the big intro’s normally associated with your musical
stylings?
AA - We all
agreed on making a straight ahead hard rock album (which is definitely not
the case with Royal Hunt). So I tried to avoid putting too many
complicated, evolving musical structures in those songs, making them as
much ‘straight to the point’ as possible. The concept was to make songs
with some solid riffs and catchy vocal lines, so I kept it that way.
MM -
Is there a thread that joins all the songs
together or are they all individual pieces?
AA -
All individual, just some
good tunes.
MM - Are there any plans for a
follow up album and if so would you consider any other vocalists for said
album?
AA - No such
plans at the moment ... we’ll see
MM - This is very much a
studio project, if you could, would you take this album out on the road?
AA - I’ve been
in this business for a while, so I’ve learned never to say never, who
knows? It might just happen.
MM - If you could sum up
this album in three words, what would they be?
AA - Quality hard rock.
MM - What are the plans for
Royal Hunt at the moment?
AA - I’m in
the process of mixing our forthcoming live album/DVD, which we recorded on
our last tour (supposed to be released in the late spring of 2006). We’ll
be playing some more shows shortly as well, after that let’s say during
this Summer Royal Hunt will be back in the studio, recording a new studio
album.
MM - To close, are there
any words of wisdom you would like to share with our readers?
AA - Enjoy
this new release ‘3’ and expect a lot of activity from me this year.
Cheers!
