Hailing
from Brazil, Auras released their debut album 'New Generation' in March
this year. We catch up with lead singer Gui Oliver to find out
more about this new South American melodic rock sensation ...
MM
- How
long have the band been going and how did you all come together?
Gui
- The band was formed in 2007. Myself and Ferpa were in a cover band
called I ON U and we decided to quit the band to make our own music.
We
meet the other guys during the recording process of our demo songs,
actually they were the best musicians we could find to complete the
line-up.
MM - The
bands sound is pure AOR / Melodic rock, have the band always been into
that sound?
Gui - We used to play this kind of music in our cover band, this is for sure
the music we love. The band was always a pure AOR/Melodic Rock band.
MM - Who
or what inspired you to play AOR / Melodic Hard rock in the first place?
Gui - My father was and still is the biggest influence in my music. He showed
me all the bands that inspired me along these years.
MM - How
did the band come to get involved with Frontiers Records?
Gui - We received an email from Mario de Riso, who works in Frontiers Records,
asking for our demo album for evaluation. After a few weeks we received
an email from Serafino Perugino asking if we wanted to be part of their
crew. It was really great, we always dreamed to be in a great label like
Frontiers.
MM - What
does the Brazilian music scene have to offer your band specifically?
What are its downfalls?
Gui - Well, first of all this kind of music is not very popular in Brazil.
There are some Brazilian bands that are famous worldwide and
unfortunately they had to have an international success to be recognized
here... so... I think we are in the same way!
MM - How
important was it to the band to get your music heard outside of South
America?
Gui - I really think the biggest part of our audience is outside Brazil.
One
important thing is that our album wasn’t released yet in Brazil...
so... it is something that we are trying to solve. But for is very
important that people from Europe, Asia and North America listen to our
music!
MM - Are
there any plans of taking the album out on tour? Will we be able to
catch you live here in Europe?
Gui - Well, this is really our goal right now! To play live is very important
to us, is where we feel alive. At this moment we are trying to find a
way to play live in Europe, it’s really something that we want so
much!
MM - Are
you pleased with the album and do you have a favourite track?
Gui - I think all the songs are special to me... each one has a different
story. About the album, I think we did the best we could at that time.
We put together the best songs we had, I’m really proud of it! But I
think we matured a lot during the process of writing and recording... so
I think the next album will be even better.
MM - If
you were to win the lottery this weekend, would you pack in the band or
plough some serious capital into it to ensure it had the best possible
chance at success?
Gui
- Why not? Hehehehehe... a worldwide tour would be great!
MM - What
do you want people will take away from your music?
Gui - All you hear in our music is our truth.
We worked so hard to be in a
great label and record this album... so... I wish people would take away
some positive messages like “Never Give Up” on your dreams!
MM - Where
do you see Auras going in the next few years?
Gui - Touring and recording more albums!
MM - Finally
thanks for taking the time out to complete this interview do you have
any final words for all our readers.
Gui - Just would like to thank our audience for the love and support!
Also
would like to thank you for the kindness and support... and... hope to
see you soon in Europe! THANKS A LOT!!!
MM
- We'd like to thank Gui for taking the time out to chat with us today
and wish him and the rest of the band every success with their new
album. If you haven't heard of Auras yet then be sure to check
