Artist:  Bohica

Date:   9 July 2005

MM - Please introduce the band.  Who are the members of Bohica, when was the band formed and how has it evolved to it’s current membership?
Hi, we're Bohica we are a 4 piece hardcore band and we've just released our debut album "No Apologies".  The band originated with Wingee (Guitar) and Nat (Drums) but the line up really came together with the addition of James (Vocals) and Tish (Bass).  Over the years the line up has changed and the band name has changed a few times but the core vision of the band has always been the same.  we write the type of music we enjoy playing and listening to and work hard to achieve the things we want to achieve.  We all want Bohica to be our future and will do all we can to make that happen!

MM - How would you describe your style of music to someone who isn’t familiar with the band and who do you see your target audience as being?
This kinda question is always a tricky one.  We like to think our music is melodic but heavy, our influences come from all genres of music from Hiphop to Heavy Metal so our spectrum is quite broad.

It's all about playing music that we love!  when we write songs, we kind of go through a process of eliminating songs we won't like!  There have been times where we've written songs that just don't really work for us.  So I guess on a subconscious level we love music that is exactly that - we love heavy riffs but we like our music to be melodic.

MM - Are the band optimists or pessimists?  Is your glass half full or half empty?
We are definitely optimists, we put a lot of hard work into the band so there is no time or scope for pessimism!  You never know what's round the corner but you can certainly narrow the odds! (:

MM - Tell us one thing about yourself that not many people know.?
J - "I've killed people ........... Hahahaha !!"
Nat - I could tell you but then everyone would know! ;o)  Erm ... I first stabbed someone when I was three ... it was my brother!  Oh and I'm, in love with Meg Ryan ... she is great!"
Tish - "Whenever I go traveling I always make a point of taking some Bohica stickers with me to stick up in as may random places as possible.  so if you're over out around California, Bilbao, Lisbon, Madrid, Warrington, Stoke and who knows where else and see a sticker high up on a signpost than it could well have been from a fairly intoxicated me stickering one off and usually being chased by some security bloke through the streets heh heh".
Eng Wei - "I had a verucca on tour ... well I was getting rid of a verucca on tour"
.

MM - The band have recently released their debut album 'No Apologies'.  Can you tell us a little bit about each of the songs included on it?
MAN! That would take ages!!  I know it sounds like a copout!  But basically I recon it's just best for people to listen to the album and make their own conclusions.  There is a bit of everything to suit all tastes, from hard to soft.  We are really proud of it and hope you all like it.

MM - How long did it take for the new album to be created from the initial conception to the finished product?
Well the album is kind of a greatest hits of ours to date if you know what I mean, it's a collection of songs that we have built up over the years, along with a few songs that were written while we were recording.  I suppose you could say that from the initial conception to the finished product it's been two years in total.  The recording was done in our own 'makeshift' studio in our spare time (every evening and weekend) over a period of about two months.

MM - How would you compare the recorded version of your songs to your live sound?
Well they aren't worlds apart, we feel our songs are definitely true to the album but with that added energy from our live performance!  We are keen not to replicate the album exactly when playing live ... I mean what's the point? ... you could just be listening to the album ;:O)

MM - What age groups do you have appearing at your shows?
We have a wide age group of people that listen to our music, depending on the kind of venue we play at really.  Most venues serve alcohol and therefore are over 18's only, but we also try and play to a younger audience when possible which usually range from 12 to 17 so it's all good as far as we're concerned
.

MM - Do you have more finished songs?  Do you have plans already for the next CD?

Hell yeah!  We've already begun writing our next album which we plan to start recording soon.  We're loving the ideas we have so far and are aiming to finish a few of the new songs over the next few months to see what the reaction is at gigs.  We can't wait to band a few out, we are very excited!

MM - How have the fans and the rock media in general responded to your debut album?

The feedback from fans has been awesome!!  Really positive!  Which of course is great!  The British media has been 50/50 but the European feedback has been really awesome too!  We're hoping to do a mini tour across the channel next year as we've made loads of contacts recently along with a few feelers we're putting out over in the States
.

MM - Where can our readers fine out more about the band?  do you have an official website they could check out?  Also is there anywhere on the net people can listen to some of your songs?

Yes sir!  Our website is where it all happens!!  Check out www.bohica.co.uk for all the videos, silliness and information you will ever need!  If you sign up as a bohican you will receive the very latest news and info on gigs etc and gain access to more photos, downloads, videos etc etc.  Go On!  Hop ion and have a look today!! ;o)

MM -
How has the internet helped spread the word about the band and do you think downloading is helping or harming music?

The internet has helped us loads!  Our website is the nerve centre of our band!  The whole site has a back door that we use to manage the band, for example we have a generic diary that every member updates with their movements enabling us to know exactly which weekends we're free for gigs etc, that info is then automatically uploaded to the site for everyone to see.  It's the way we run things and it works for us.  With regard to whether downloading is helping or harming music, for us I think it's helping as it helps our music get out there!  We've had over 10,000 downloads so far which is incredible!!  Bring it one! ;o).

MM -

MM -
What's your idea of fun?  Are you serious by nature or a bundle of mischief?
Definitely mischief whenever possible, we try not to be too serious ... but there are times we don't have much choice ;o)

J - "I love getting twatted with my mates, it'd also be great never having to work again!  I could sleep all day and then faff when I'm awake ... kinda like faffnaps! ;o)"
Nat
- I love going crazy but also like some chilling time too!  My xbox, drum kit and American football season help with that!
Eng Wei - I'm always playing my guitar writing tunes or buying gadgets, toys rule!  I'm like that little dude from Goonies ... only I'm not an inventor! ;o)
Tish - Socialising for sure!  My friends are really important to me!  Always up for some mischief.

MM -
What are you listening to these days yourself?  Old classics or modern bands?  Do you ever listen to music that is very different from what you do, if so what?

J - I don't tend to listen to that many old classics, at the more I've been listening to Funeral for a Friend, Boy Hits Car, Taproot to name but a few ... oh plus our new ideas ;o)

Eng Wei, Nat and Tish have lots between them ... some old some new, some classic ... between us we have wide taste.  Basically we listen to all kinds and appreciate music for what it is! ;o)

MM - Who do you think influenced the world of rock more than any other person, for better or for worse?

Man, another tough one!  we would all probably answer that differently!  Maybe someone like Jimi Hendrix?!?  And it would have to be an influence for the better.  We believe that influences are dependant upon a combination of experiences over many years and current circumstance.  We all have different musical heroes and favourite bands.  To list them all would take ages! ... Is that a copout ?!? :o)

MM -
Finally, is there anything you would like to say to all our readers out there?
Yes definitely!  Thanks for taking the time to read this, please check us out and let us know what you think.  We hope to see you soon, either on the road or on the website!  Hope you are all cool, take it easy! Bohica.
