It's been over a year since we last spoke to these guys and so we thought
it was about time we got our roving reporter Shen Spencer on the case to
find out what they've been up to.
Shen - Nutrajet are a two man, Florida based, punk, rock n roll band.
These guys rock louder than most.
MM - Who or what was a major influence on you musically?
Musically it would be the Sex Pistols - I love Steve Jones' guitar
playing. There's also the Saints, Cheap Trick and John Barry. Jeff n' I
both love Stax/Volt soul - who doesn't?! A lot of spy flick and espionage
novel imagery works it's way into our stuff. This list could get very,
very long so I'll stop now.
MM - Do you ever miss not having a bass player in the band?
No. Never. It's nothing against having a bass player, it's just that our
chemistry - if you could call it that, works best without it. We tried
several bass players in the beginning and it just didn't click. We wanted
something different. However, if Tom Peterson from Cheap Trick ever wants
to take a crack at it, he's got the job!
MM - If you could have written anything in the world what would it be and
why?
Well, if we're talkin' songs then it would be 'Bodies' (Sex Pistols),
'Cause it abso-fuckin-lutely floors me every time I hear it.
MM -
What
new tunes have you in the pipeline? And when is the new album out?
I'm always writing. Our latest meisterwerks would be called 'SS',
'Terminally Yours', 'Spysinker', and 'Hot Seat'. They'll all be out on
'For Your Protection' which will be released on Twenty Stone Blatt around
mid-July.
MM -
Which of your own songs is your current favourite?
'December Drowning'.
MM - If you could work with anyone in the world, alive or dead, who
would it be and why?
Steve Jones for reasons mentioned above. Wilson Pickett and/or Etta James
for obvious reasons.
MM - What was the most memorable gig you have ever been to? And
which one of your own gigs that you have played is your personal
favourite?
We played a few shows with Cheap Trick that were a helluva' lot of fun. As
for our gigs, the last show we played over there at The Peel in Kingston
was a blast. I felt most of the shows we played in the UK this time 'round
were some of our best but they could always be better. I don't think Jeff
n' I are ever really satisfied. And we shouldn't be.
MM - If you could do anything else in the world, what
would it be?
Porn Star. I like the hours.
MM - What is the best thing that has ever happened to you?
Remaining alive.
MM
-
What makes you laugh?
Almost everything.
MM - Whose poster did you have on your
bedroom wall when you were younger and which vixen did you want to snog?
I definitely have the hots for Lolita Davidovich and Lesley Ann Warren.
MM - What is your favourite drink? Is it still screwdriver because
of Glen Matlock?
Yes, indeed it is a Screwdriver (triple) - but not because of Matlock.
Because of Vodka! Although, drunkenly running through a few numbers with
Glen was fuckin' great!
MM - Did you guys enjoy playing over here in
sunny (well it is sunny sometimes) England? Did you get to see any of the
sights this time in most of the places you gig'd?
We had an excellent time - and yes, we did get to see a lot more of
England this time around. It was sunny n' mild every day, right up until
we left. We took the sun with us. Sorry. You're used to it, though ...
MM - What plans do you have to tour back over here and knock
the stuffing out of the British fans?
Looks like we'll be back over in late August/early September for another
two or three weeks.
MM - What sort of difference is there in the
audiences that you have back home in Florida to over here in Blighty?
There seems to be more actual music fans at the shows in the UK as opposed
to just consumers. I've noticed that audiences over there think more for
themselves - they don't care how big or popular a band is. If they like it
they support it - period. We have good audiences here but there's a lot of
flock mentality, sometimes.
MM - And finally, what is your 'philosophy' to life?
To stay alive, of course! That, and to have as much sex as possible before
I kick it ...
