MM - Introduce the band members to us.
Britney Taylor: Vocals
Zak Vela: Bass
Ron Vela: Guitar and backing vocals
Dwayne Vincentie: Drums

MM - When was the band formed and how did you all meet?
The band has been together in previous incarnations for several years but this particular line-up has been together about a year.

Zak and Ron are brothers and as Zak likes to tell it he heard me singing karaoke in the bowling alley and the rest is history!

Dwayne just joined our lineup about 1 month ago.

MM - How or why did you decide on the name 'Plush' for the band?

After trying other names that were already taken we settled on Plush. We wanted a name that created a visual and would be memorable.

Something that's "plush" is rich in textures. We thought that described our music and us as a band.

MM - Are you signed/unsigned at the moment?
We are signed to an indie label called Velco Records.

MM - What bands/artists have influenced you the most over the years?
Collectively we are all huge fans of Cheap Trick and U2. For myself I am a huge 80's fan and bands like the Go Go's, Pretenders and Blondie had a huge influence on me.  There's not a lot of stuff I am liking out nowadays.

MM - For anyone who isn't familiar with the band and it's sound, how would you best describe it?
I would say we are like No Doubt meets the Pretenders.  It's commercial pop/rock that is geared toward a vast audience.

MM - Who writes and composes the songs you perform?
Zak is the main songwriter but any of us will throw ideas in after he brings in the main structure of the song.

MM - What do the band have planned for the future?

We are currently about to start recording the 2nd cd which we will be shopping to labels as soon as it's complete.

We're looking at a summer tour here on the west coast also.

There's always a million things going on with this band!

MM - What was the most memorable rock concert you have attended?
My first concert which was Journey's "Raised On Radio" tour and the first time I ever saw Aerosmith on the "Pump" tour. They are one of my all time favourite bands and the way they captivate an audience, still to this day, is amazing!

MM - What was the last concert you attended?
Bon Jovi in December. It was fun nostalgia!

MM - How would you like to see rock music progress in the next couple of years?
I would like to get away from this whole rock/rap Limp Biscuit thing. I'm into all this anger and heavy doom music. People aren't writing songs anymore that aren't about partying and anger.

I want to get back to good pop music that is a bit more happy and friendly. People writing unique, good catchy music again. The only band that comes to mind like that right now is No Doubt.

PlushMM - What band(s) would you most like to tour or do a show with?

Aerosmith, Cheap Trick and the Go Go's.

MM - If you could meet any one person out of Rock History, alive or dead, who would it be?
Though I met Steven Tyler briefly I would like to really be able to sit down and talk to him.  Either him or Rod Stewart when he was young, hot and still making good music.

MM - Has the internet influenced the way in which the band project their music and image?

Absolutely! Bands can do so much promotion on their own now and reach such a huge audience.  I don't think a band can be successful nowadays without utilizing the power of the internet. It's a wonderful thing.

MM - The current controversy surrounding Napster - what are your views on it?

That's a tough one. I blame the music industry first of all because they rip off the musicians horribly. To charge such huge prices for cd's makes the public less willing to buy a cd, which makes sales go down.  In turn the record company keeps all of that money and gives the artist such a small percent when they created the music!

I think if prices went down then the need for Napster wouldn't be so big.  Also, if bands put out more quality music, instead of 3 good songs and a bunch of filler, than the public would also be willing to buy more cd's!.

I don't blame Napster.

MM - What are you views on the current craze of 'rap-rock', do you think it's just a phase or is it here to stay?
As I said, I don' like it. I think it is already going out of style thankfully. It's just not quality music. There's no thought being put into it.

MM - Do you currently have any CD's available and where can they be obtained?
Yes we have a 4 song cd available on our website at [Britney's E-mail]
www.plush-music.com or you can by our MP3 cd which contains the same songs at www.mp3.com/plush. We are currently working on cd #2 which should be available in May/June.

MM - Are you planning on touring soon, and will you be coming to the UK?

We are hoping on a summer tour. My dream is to go to the UK but we are in no financial position to do that at this time.

Not a lot of people know about us in the UK yet but we are working hard to change that so we can get there soon!

MM - Finally, is there anything you would like to say to your fans?
We want to thank everyone for all of their support. There's nothing we love more than making music and to find wonderful people who enjoy it is just the greatest thing in the world!
Plush
