MM - Introduce the band members to us.
Frank Regan and John Loughlin on vocals, Darren Smith on bass, Gordon
Morison on drums, and Gareth Smith and myself (Tony Loughlin) on guitar.
MM - When was the band formed and how did you
all meet?
August 1998. We were in two separate bands that rehearsed at the same
space, and we combined the two together.
MM - Where did the name 'Raging Speedhorn'
come from?
Dave from our management was on a three-day drug binge at Reading and came
up with it as a result of his activities there.
MM - What bands/artists have influenced you
the most over the years?
AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, tons of others.
MM - For anyone who isn't familiar with the
band and it's sound, how would you best describe it?
Very heavy.
MM - You're probably one of the heaviest UK
bands around right now, why do you think UK talent gets so little
recognition over here, and all the emphasis seems to be on the current
trend of chart-friendly us rap rock?
I'm not sure. I think that's changing slowly but steadily.
MM - Who writes and composes the songs you
perform?
All of us.
MM - What do the band have planned for the
future?
More records and even more touring. Sometimes we'll sleep.
MM - What was the most memorable rock concert
you have attended?
Can't remember, there've been loads.
MM - What was the last concert you attended?
Doro Pesch at the King's Head in London.
MM - How would you like to see rock music
progress in the next couple of years?
I just want more good stuff.
MM - What band(s) would you most like to tour or do a show with?
AC/DC
MM - If you could meet any one person out of
Rock History, alive or dead, who would it be?
Bon Scott
MM - Has the internet influenced the way in
which the band project their music and image?
No.
MM - The current controversy surrounding
Napster - what are your views on it?
We think napster is cool, as lots of people have been able to hear our
stuff for the first time. And lots of people have told us that they went
out and bought the album after downloading a track or two.
MM - What do you like to do after a gig?
Drink more alcohol.
MM - What are you views on the current craze
of 'rap-rock', do you think it's just a phase or is it here to stay?
The good stuff always sticks around, regardless of what genre it is.
MM - How has the music press reacted to your
stunning debut album?
They have seemed to like it in most places. We're always surprised when
anyone besides us likes what we do.
MM - Are you planning on touring soon, and
will you be playing Newcastle?
As of right now, the only UK date on the horizon is the UK Ozzfest at the
end of May.
We've had some great shows in Newcastle in the past and we do want to play
there again, but I couldn't make any promises about what the band's future
touring plans are going to be in the next few months.
MM - Finally, is there anything you would
like to say to your fans?
Buy us drinks when you see us. We need them!
