MM - Introduce the band to us and where do you call
home?
The band is called $kyhigh and we're from Rhode Island, USA. The members
are:
Steve Carnevale (lead vocals)
Rich Antonelli (lead guitar)
Frank Soltys (drums)
Keith Mancini (bass)
MM - When was the band first formed and how
did you all meet?
$kyhigh was first formed in 1993-94...or around that time. We kinda knew
one another from high school and through mutual friends.
MM -Your music is still a bit of an unknown quantity over here in the
UK, how would you best describe it and who would it appeal to?
We like to think of it as fun rock'n'roll. Nothing too serious...there's
enough misery and gloom in the world....we don't need to make gloomy
music.
MM - You have been actively promoting your
debut album 'Tales from the Crib' since it was released, what kind of
response have you received from the fans?
The response has been great...both here in the U.S. and overseas. It's
done very well through Perris Records.
MM - You are currently working on the new
album and in fact running a competition for the fans to name it. How is
the album coming along and how can people enter the competition?
The new album will HOPEFULLY be done by March.
We're recording it ourselves so we're taking our time on it. As far as the
contest goes, you can either visit our website to vote:
or e-mail
skyhigh@skyhighrocks.com
MM - Do you have a date in mind to release
the new album yet?
No date....we kept putting a date but it kept getting pushed back so we
decided not to try.
MM - Will you be touring to promote the
release and any plans to tour in the UK and Europe?
We're in the process now of trying to hook up with other bands to tour in
the U.S. As far as the U.K. and Europe go, we're still far from that at
this point...but you never know. Anybody want to put us up over there? =)
MM -The band has toured with some HUGE rock
names, tell us who you have toured with in the past and was there any
particular one that stood out from the rest?
Let's see...we've done shows with Warrant, Cinderella, White Lion,
Slaughter, CC Deville from Poison, Honeymoon Suite, Sebastian Bach, Living
Colour and just recently did a show with Luxx.
Warrant stands out as the most memorable. They're the coolest guys...very
down to earth and no attitude.
MM - How has the music media in general
responded to the band and its music?
The media has been great for the most part. We'll get the occasional
"oh...they sound like an 80's band" but it doesn't bother us. I think the
best music came out of the 80's.
We, as a band, don't hear it. But I guess when a band has melodies and
harmonies and actually plays their instruments, they're labeled as an 80's
sounding band....which is fine with us.
MM - For all the musicians out there, can
you tell us about the equipment/instruments the band use.
Steve (vocals) uses Shure mics, Takamine acoustic guitars and just
recently got a fender strat.
Rich (lead guitar) uses Ernie Ball Music Man Van Halen guitars, Ibanez
guitars, a custom RJP model guitar, Marshall amplification, Peavey
cabinets, crybaby wah pedals and also used Alesis keyboards.
Frank (drums) uses Tama drums, Paiste and Zildjian cymbals.
Keith (bass) uses Yamaha amps, Peavey cabinets and Ibanez guitars.
MM - If $kyhigh could feature on the
soundtrack of any cult TV series, which one would you choose?
That's a tough one....if any tv shows out there would like to use our
music, just give us a call!
MM - What bands/artists have inspired you
the most over the years?
Van Halen, The Beatles, Rick Springfield, Rush and countless others.
MM - What was the most memorable thing that
happened to you in the year 2000?
That's a tough one too. Probably getting the chance to play shows with
some really cool bands.
MM - What short phrase would you use to
describe the bands mood right now?
If you're not with us, you WILL be.
MM - Lastly, have you any messages you would
like to share with your fans old and new?
We'd just like to thank everyone for sticking with us through the dark
years of rock music.
We see a light at the end of the tunnel and we plan on continuing to play
the kind of music that we like....not what the flavor of the month happens
to be.
The new album is gonna kick ass. Keep checking out our site (www.skyhighrocks.com)
and also join up for our e-mail list on the site! See you really soon!
