| We
catch up with Allan from The Kandidate to gain a better insight and
understanding of the man behind the music ...
MM -
How long have you been playing together? Allan - For around
three years.
MM - How did you
all meet? Allan - KB the bassist
and I have been playing together forever in numerous bands. We
made a new band and recorded at Jacobs studio. Not long after
that, he was our singer. NP we found a year and a half ago when
our previous drummer left.
MM - What are
your influences? Allan - Everything worth listening to,
it’s really varied with all of us.
MM - Do you feel
the reception of your debut album was as good as you expected? Allan
- Yeah, to some extend. A few disappointing reviews but
mainly good and satisfying reviews.
MM - How long
have you been playing your instruments/singing? Allan - For
my self, it’s around 25 years. Crazy when I think of it.
I’m getting fucking old. I’d expect it’s around 20-25 years
for the others too.
MM - How long
did the album take to write? Allan - Well, we started writing
right after our debut album, so around a year and a half. But ¾
of the album was written in two months.
MM - Is
the song-writing an individual or a shared process? Allan -
KB and I do the basic songwriting, we all have a say when arranging and
fine tuning the songs.
MM - Did you
meet all of your goals/expectations for 2011? If not, what did you miss?
Allan - Yes, we did. Toured a lot, wrote and recorded
the new album, so it’s all good. Looking forward to 2012 where
we have a lot of shit coming our way.
MM - What
are your goals/expectations for 2012? Allan - Touring and
promoting the new album. It’s going to kick ass. We will
be playing our home town Denmark, China ,, planning to go to
Russia and hopefully a full scale European tour.
MM - Has there
been a defining moment for you that have made you think you’ve made
it? Allan - No. We haven’t made it yet, and probably
never will.
MM - What was
your best gig? Allan - Probably the last one we played which
was at a Festival in Aalborg, Denmark in November 2011. Everything
worked out, crowd was numerous and engaging and we played our asses off.
MM - And the
worst? Allan - Probably the one before that. We played
shitty in front of 50 people at a very non promoted gig in
Copenhagen. We just sucked ...
MM - Any parting
words or messages you’d like to share with our readers? Allan
- Nope. But thanks for the interview and your interest in my band.
Cheers, Allan / The Kandidate
