Artist: The Murder Of My Sweet

Date:  1 May 2010

With the release of their stunning debut album 'Divinity' earlier this year we catch up with singer Angelica Rylin from The Murder Of My Sweet to find out more about the band and their music ...

MM - Right straight down to business, how did the band first come together?
Angelica
-
Daniel took the initiative to The Murder Of My Sweet. It was by his ideas that we came together and became a band.  He knew the other guys from projects he had been involved with earlier and in late 2006 they started up what was to become The Murder Of My Sweet.  I was recruited in September 2007.

MM - Was there a vision or plan of how the band would sound, or did things just develop along the way?
Angelica
- We didn’t really have a plan when we started out.  Daniel wanted to do something different from the progressive stuff he was used to and I really hadn’t a clue.  I had never written music or lyrics before so we decided to start from the beginning and just let it happen.  Our sound developed naturally as we wrote the songs.  Daniel is amazing at arranging strings, keyboards and horns like soundtracks for movies and when we took a step back to listen to what we had created we realized that this was something new.  I don’t know of any band that uses score music for film in rock music so we thought “let’s do it”.  Push the envelope a bit.

MM - ‘Divanity’ is an outstanding debut release, were the band pleased with how it turned out?
Angelica
- Absolutely.  We worked on it for almost two years.  As we could use Daniel’s own studio Sound vs. Science we were able to go in and record or change something whenever we wanted to.  We wrote and recorded more than twenty tracks for this debut, so we had a lot to choose from when it was time to finish it and I believe the best songs made it on the album.

MM - How long did the whole thing take to put together and were there any problems on the way?
Angelica
- From the start to the release of 'Divanity' it took about three and a half years.  I can’t think of any problems on the way but the true quest was to find the right record label to sign with.  Frontiers Records came up with the best deal but the most important thing is that they really believed in us and wanted to commit 100%

MM - With the influx of female fronted bands over the past few years, how important was it for the band to stand out from the crowd and deliver an album that would send waves of euphoria around the world as the album did?
Angelica
- First of all, thank you for loving our album :)  We didn’t really expect anything when we first started out.  We just wanted to do our thing and we go all the way when we set our mind on something.  The effects of our song writing and that some critics have put us among great bands like Within Temptation and Evanescence is just overwhelming, really fantastic.  I hope that reputation will encourage more people to check to our music.

MM - What is the song writing structure for the band, who writes the music and lyrics?  Is it an individual or does the entire band have input?
Angelica -
Mostly Daniel does most of the composing and I write the lyrics.  But we want everyone to contribute with their skills as we wrap up the song.  It’s all of our different musical backgrounds that make us sound like The Murder Of My Sweet.

MM - A question that’s on everyone’s lips at the moment is whether the band are a full blown touring band or just a studio project?
Angelica
- We are a full blown touring band.  We just recently started playing around Sweden with a couple of Sweden’s biggest rock festivals ahead of us and we have the Raismes Festival in France in September.  We also have a German booking agency called ITM that are working on getting us on tour in Europe this summer. Visit www.myspace.com/themurderofmysweet or www.themurderofmysweet.com for exact tour dates.

MM - Where do the band go from here?  Have you thought about a second album yet and if so can we expect?  More of the same as regards to quality and musicianship and musical style?
Angelica
- Today we are fully committed to promoting Divanity but of course we have some cool ideas for a second album.  You can expect more The Murder Of My Sweet but we will take it up a notch and bring it to another level.  You can always count on a great quality in the musicianship and sound as long as Daniel Flores is involved.  He is an amazing sound engineer.

MM - Finally is there anything you’d like to add or any words for our readers?
Angelica
- Thanks for reading this interview and check out our music!  Support the bands that you like by buying their albums and letting them know that you are out there.  You are everything to us.

Rock and kisses*

Angelica

MM - We'd like to wish Angelica and the band every success with their album 'Divanity' and hope to see them perform live on these shores one day.  If you haven't already checked the album out then be sure to pop over to their website where you can hear exerts from the new album.  You can also check out what we thought of the album in our CD Review section.
