Artist: Obsessive Compulsive

Date: 26 November 2011

We caught up with Trashstock lovelies Obsessive Compulsive at their recent show in Newcastle to quick chat to find out more about the band and their music.

MM - How’s it been going so far with the Wolfsbane tour, I know it’s only day two!
Kelli
- Yeah really great, like you say it’s only our second night with them, but straight away everyone was really lovely, very friendly and a really nice atmosphere.  We are all getting on like a house on fire.

MM - You have an amazing stage presence, what’s the main thing you are looking to do next year?
Kelli
- Next Year we just want to tour as much as we possibly can.  That’s pretty much always the plan actually, as we love touring and hopefully set up next year and tour Europe.  Defiantly get on some festivals next year.  We did two this year and due to be doing Hard Rock Hell in December.

MM - What's your main musical influences?
Kelli
- We like all sorts of stuff between us.  We are really really varied and personally, I like a lot of different kinds of music.  But I suppose vocal heroes would be Trent Reznor, I have always been a massive fan of Nine Inch Nails and Sebastian Bach, Mike Patton.  But then I am a big fan of PJ Harvey, Tori Amos and some of the alternative side rather than just Metal.  We have such a varied taste.  We were listening to a bit of Diana Ross on the way here!!.

MM - Obviously not the first time you've played Newcastle, you went down really well tonight.
Kelli
- No we have been here a few times, but it's our first time at this venue.  We played Legends which was awesome and the Hyem bar.  The Hyem bar was a bit off the beaten track.  Legends was an awesome night.  So next time we come here, we will try and get Legends or Trillian’s, or maybe we will come back here if we are allowed!

MM - Blaze Bayley was just saying how much he loves your band.
Kelli
- That’s very, very cool, he’s a Rock legend!

MM - From your last album, are there any stand out tracks that you love to play live?
Kelli
- They are all stand out! ha ha.  No, we did videos for the '$$ Signs', 'Madness vs The Machine', 'Autopsy' and have just done another one for '27 And A Half', which will be rearing its head on YouTube in the next few weeks.   We had some great feedback from Scuzz and Kerrang on the previous videos, so it’s all really cool.  We do it all this ourselves, there’s no label or agent putting money into us.

MM - I am surprised a big label has not picked you up yet.
Kelli
- I just don’t think we are quite really there and we prefer to keep things to ourselves.  We work really hard.  A lot of what they do, we do ourselves.  We have distribution of our own label  etc., so we don’t really need help in that sense and we prefer to be independent really.

MM - Pete, which bands influence you?
Pete - Killing Joke, New Model Army, who are one of the greatest rock n' roll bands in the world.

Kelli - Rolf Harris! Ha ha.

MM - As you are from Manchester, what do you think of Fury UK who are currently out on tour with Iced Earth?
Kelli - Yes they are really nice guys and we know them well.  It’s great to see them doing so well!  Chris is an amazing guitarist.

MM - Talking of Manchester, SOS Fest is coming up next year, would you consider performing at it, or have you been asked before?
Kelli
- Yeah maybe.  I think we have been asked before, but we already do a lot of our own shows in Manchester you see.

MM - (Cheeky question!) Pete,  do you not think Kelli's a bit like Pink?!?!  As in stage presence, or is it just the Green Hair? ha ha.  No seriously, if Pink stopped all the pop songs and went a bit more Punk /Metal she would be awesome!... I have a mega Pink fan in the family so know the songs..arrrgh !!!
Kelli
- Poor you!!!

MM - I KNOW!!!  So, What do you reckon Pete?
Pete
- What a chunky lesbian!!! Nah she's a bit more like the female equivalent of Lemmy without the warts! ha ha!

And on that note they went deservedly to the bar.  A surreal interview which I wasn’t even prepared for!!  A great band and they are definitely going to be huge.  Go and see them live and buy the album 'Dreams of Death And Death of Dreams'!
