MM - Who's
in the band and how did you all meet?
The band is Krys Baratto on bass/vocals
Francis Ruiz on drums/vocals
CC DeVille on guitar/vocals.
The band came together kinda cool.
CC was taking in an adult film one night and heard some groovin' music,
at the end of the film it said "music by Girth".
He contacted a friend of his (in the porn biz) and asked him who Girth
was.....it was me !! So he called me and we started writing and demoing
songs and decided we needed a drummer, in came Francis.
MM - Where did the name 'Samantha 7' come from?
Samantha 7 was actually a cartoon character from an old Japanese
animated cartoon. She made one appearance. She was a dominatrix kinda
gal with I believe a hook for one hand and a hammer for another.
MM - Where in the world do the band call home?
The band call LA, CA home. We all live in the same neighbourhood.
MM - What influenced your decision to use Jack Blades to produce your
debut album?
Having Jack Blades produce the album was actually the record companies
idea. John Kolader had worked with him before and wanted him to do it.
MM - Was it a conscious decision to have a very different sound to that
of 'Poison', or was that just how it worked out?
The sound of the record was not really a conscious decision not to sound
like Poison. It has some hint of it on there but that is because CC
wrote and played all the Poison songs. This record is more modern
sounding then Poison and me and Francis have different styles then Bobby
and Rikki.
MM - How has the new album been received outside the USA?
As of this time it hasn't been released outside the US. They are looking
at releasing it probably in a few months.
MM - What's your favourite track off the new album?
My favourite track is "Slave Laura", and "Framed"
MM - Do you have any plans for a UK/European tour?
It looks like we will tour Europe starting in February. I believe the
first show is at the Astoria in London Feb. 15th
MM - Which band/artist has influenced you the most?
Bob Dylan to me is just simply the greatest.
MM - What's the most outrageous thing you've done in the name of Rock N'
Roll?
I don't know if it was outrageous, but I played a show in a G string and
combat boots, unbeknown to my guitar player, John Christ from Danzig. He
quit the next day. He's still one of my best friends I think it through
him off guard.
MM - If you could do a cover version of any song, what would it be?
Off the top of my head, I would like S7 to cover "Good Girls
Don't" by the Knack. I think it fits in with our songs very well.
MM - For anyone that hasn't already heard your music, how would you best
describe it?
Samantha 7 is cautiously optimistic music for the new millennium. Or
power pop.
MM - What's your most treasured possession?
You know, that's a good question. I really don't have any. Maybe my
Baratto Bass.
MM - How would you like to see Rock music progress in the new
millennium?
I think music is doing just fine the way it's goin'. I could do without
some of that rap stuff and that rap rock. I don't get it.
MM - What's are the bands plans for the future?
Samantha 7 plans to tour the states then to Europe. Hopefully start the
next record the middle of next year and do it all over again.
