| With the AntiChrist
New Years Eve's party just around the corner, we catch up with Missy who
will be performing that night, Satan's Strip Show, to find
out more about the troupe and their dancers.
MM
- What were the original beginnings of the group? Missy - At
AC’s relaunch in 2007, I wanted to have strippers with a real
strip-club vibe in between the performances. We advertised online for
alternative girls to get naked, and had 5 girls apply to audition.
The
auditions were held the afternoon of the event, and we were pleased with
the mix of body types and skills. During the 8 hours of performances,
SSS went on every half hour or so, with the girls going round the
audience with a collection pot after each dance. This seemed to confuse
the audience a bit though, they didn’t ‘get’ the strip-club feel,
so we scrapped the collections at future AC’s!
MM
- Has
there always been a mix of male and female performers? Missy - Yes,
although it’s very very hard to find male strippers! We’ve had a few
mails over the years from people asking why men are underrepresented in
SSS, and we have to explain that we aren’t sexist, we just don’t get
many applications from males.
MM
- Has
there ever been a problem with a show? Missy - We
had one earlier this year, there were 5 strippers booked to perform, and
with 2 minutes to go before show time, only 1 had arrived! The others had
all had various problems with transport or injuries, but luckily 2 more
arrived as the first was onstage, so it didn’t look too bad!
We also promised a pole
at the last Halloween event, but when we tried to put it up, it was 2
inches too short…despite very careful measuring in advance. Hopefully
we’ll have pole-dancing on Dec 30th.
MM
- Who
picks the music? Missy - Each
dancer picks their own tracks, the only specification they have to work
to is that it must be alternative – no RnB or Britney Spears!
MM
- There's
a mix of ages and races, is this intentional? Missy - We
don’t go out of our way to book specific types, but we don’t
discount people due to those things either. Who am I to say what people
in the audience will find attractive?! Again, our only qualifier is that
they must be alternative – be that in hair, tattoos, piercings, or
general style…
MM
- Can
anyone become a burlesque dancer or do you need special qualities? Missy
- The members of SSS are not
burlesque dancers! They are strippers. It’s an important difference,
because burlesque dancers do not get fully naked (they tend to strip to
nipple pasties and thong).
Our strippers show
everything, and often perform with toys, hot wax, cream and other
exciting playthings :)
MM
- Can anyone become a stripper? Missy - Absolutely! It helps if
you have a sense of rhythm, so you can move to the beat of the music,
and you should feel proud of your naked body so you enjoy yourself up
onstage. Other than that, it’s just a matter of practise.
MM
- What is the longest set you've had to do? Missy - SSS
runs for half an hour at each AC, with each dancer doing one or 2 sets
in that time. One set is the length of their chosen track.
MM
- How do you find your dancers? Missy - We advertise online via
Facebook and The Alterium.
SSS
- MM - Have
you achieved everything you wanted to for 2011? What do you want to
achieve in 2012? Missy - Not
quite… In 2012 I’d like to add a couple of regular male strippers to
the group, I’d like to have pole dancing feature in each SSS, and
I’d like to squeeze a second set in later in the evening.
Satan’s Strip Show
can be seen at Club AntiChrist on the Theatre of Sin at 10.15-10.45pm.
featuring MisSa Blue, LunaX, Tainted Lover, Candice and maybe a couple
of new faces.
If
you would like to audition for SSS (live during an AC) mail us at info@clubantichrist.com
