Following the
release of their new album 'Sacrifice' we catch up with founding member
and guitarist Torben Enevoldsen to find out more ...
MM - Firstly,
how did Section A come together? TE - Back in 2001, I needed a change of pace. I had released
a few instrumental albums and now wanted to write an all vocal album. I
started contacting musicians in order to get a band together and the
initial line-up got in place very quickly.
 |
MM - The
new album is the bands third album but there was a four year hiatus
between the albums, why was this? TE - The
reason for taking a four year hiatus, was not intentional. We had a lot
of problems aligning schedules and whatnot.
MM - The
new album is a little heavier than the bands previous releases, was this
intentional or just a progression for the bands sound? TE - We
all wanted to do something a bit more straight forward this time around
and I guess the heaviness just came naturally.

MM - How
does the song writing process go, are you in the whole the main
songwriter or do the rest of the guys have an input? TE - I
write all the music, but Andy and Conny writes the lyrics and on this
particular album, the melody lines.
MM - What
has Thomas Heintzelmann brought to the Section A sound since coming into
the band? TE - Thomas Heintzelmann has opened new doors to the band
technically. His double bass drumming is very fast and tight, and
that enabled us to utilize this in our new songs. As a result, a song
like “Land Of The Desert Sun” became just the way I wanted it. Very
tight, fast and heavy.
MM - On
the album we see Lasse Finbraten of Circus Maximus on keyboards, how did
he become involved in the project and what made you decide to bring in
another keyboard player? TE - Like
on the two previous albums, I wanted to have a great keyboard player do
a solo. I like the diversity it brings and it’s always a kick to work
with talented people. Lasse and I have a mutual friend who helped me get
in touch with him. When I asked him to participate, he said yes right
away.

MM - You
did most of the recording in your own studio, does having your own
studio have a greater affect on an album, rather than relying on fitting
into another studios schedule? TE - It’s
just a lot more convenient, both practically, but also very much
financially.
MM - Is
this just a studio project or a fully fledged band? If it’s just a project, given the chance would you take
Section A out on the road? TE - I
would love to take Section A out on the road. I am actually right now
working on turning Section A into a proper band, in order for us to do
some live gigs.
|
MM - Hopefully
it won’t be another four years until the next album, have you given
any thought to the next album yet or is it too early? TE - Right
now I am way too busy working on other projects I’m afraid ;-)
MM - Finally
do you have any words for all our readers, this is your chance to plug
your music and more! TE - I would like to invite all of you to stop by our My Space page to listen
to some songs and read the latest news: www.myspace.com/sectionatheband
MM
- We'd like to thank Torben for taking the time out to chat with us
today and wish him every success with the new album. Be sure to
check out their MySpace site so you can listen to some of their new
songs.
