Artist: Summon

Date:  1 January 2001

MM – Introduce the band members to us.
CHAS: The band line up to date is:
Chas Schoals - Barbaric Bass and Blistering Cries
Josh Moore - Hyper Blasting Chaos on Drums
Ryan ONeil - Fingering Flurries all guitars

MM - Where do the band call home?
C: Home is in Michigan, I live in Lansing and the other guys live in Hastings

MM - How would you best describe your music and who would it appeal to?
C: Our music is very violent and ultra fast, it would appeal to anybody that would give it a chance, well, it's music that scares your parents and is too loud in the morning.

MM - When was the band formed and how did you all meet?
C: The band was formed in 1991.  The line up was different and was only together for about a year. Half of the band moved to Florida to play for the masses, lots of problems arrived and I moved back to Michigan to join new band "Massochist".  We jammed for a few years then reformed Summon.

It wasn't until about 2 years ago Josh joined Summon. He played in another band "Defaced". He was about 16 at the time, but man, did that kid smoke on the drums.

Ryan was last to join about a year ago. Now Summon is complete total fucking chaos!!!!!

MM - The band is currently searching for a new lead guitarist, what happened to the last one and what are you looking for in the new one?
C: We were looking for a new guitar player because Sean (Xaphan) left the band. He was lead guitar, lead vocal. RIP, we will miss you. He left for personal reasons.

We are not looking for a new guitar player anymore. We are staying as a three piece. Way more sick, way more raw the way we started years ago
.

MM - Do you have any plans to tour outside the USA in the near future?

C: We would love to tour outside the States. I'm sure it will eventually happen. Lots of people love us overseas and I feel that's where we belong.

A big thing is money and we don't have any tour support.  I run a Distro/Label "Blackened Moon", eventually if we don't get the support I will probably kick the bill.  Then we will Desecrate Europe.

MM - Earlier this year you released the 'Baptized by Fire' CD, tell us a bit about it and is it readily available?
C: Baptized by fire was an album that had been written for a while.  We wrote it with another drummer, then we found Josh and had to re-write the album.  The album is old style Black Metal with Death Metal influences

If you like Metal, period, I feel you will enjoy it. If not, who gives a fuck?

Blasheme Xaphan wrote all the lyrics and he was pretty pissed off, so they turned out very well. I must say the album is selling very well.  It's on Killjoys' label from Necrophagia, "Baphomet Records" distributed by Necropolis records and on Hammerheart overseas.

Guaranteed should be in your collection

MM - As well as the CD what other merchandise do you have available for us to add to our Christmas list?
C: We have T-shirts, hats and new to the Summon camp - Hooded Sweatshirts, stickers and a lot of other CD's. Like I said, I have a Distro.

MM - How do you see the band progressing in the future?

C: I see the band doing very well. We have been talking about this is the new Summon, and now this is the new Sumon.  The new material is a lot faster, way more brutal and my vocals are a lot different than Xapnan's.  I sing a lot lower, plus do highs. I use more range.

I think the world is in for a surprise. It's different, but it is killer

MM - What bands/artists have influenced you the most over the years?
C: Well, I'm more into the Old School Black Metal like Venom, Bathory and Sodom.  I like a few of the new bands out now, but a lot of them sound the same.

My Drummer is really into anything fast. He loves Dying Fetus, Deeds of Flesh, Cryptopsy, too many to list. He likes to listen to all kinds of music.  Most of all I really like old Rock 'N Roll - Deep Purple, Black Sabbath. You know the oldies but the goodies.

MM - Who designs the artwork on your merchandise?
C: Xaphan does all the artwork.  He is a kick ass artist.  That is some of the reason for leaving the band.  He is a tattooist at "Splash of Color" in Michigan and he is so busy.

MM - Do you have a main song writer in the band or is it a joint effort and where do they get the inspiration from?

C: Xaphan and myself wrote all the music in the past and now we all put out two cents in.  Ryan the new guitar player comes up with some sick ass riffs then Josh chops them up.

MM - How has the rock media in general responded to your music?

C: It doesn't respond to shit, because we are not in the media we can't play around Michigan too much. We are banned from most of the bars and venues.

The media would shit their pants. I would definitely like some more exposure but that's in time.

We will be touring a shit load this summer, so keep an ear out for us cumming ... well at least your mouth opened...HAHAHAHAH!!!!

MM - What short phrase best describes the band and their beliefs?

C: Anti Christian

MM - How would you like to see metal progress in the new year?
C: I would like to see more places get rid of this Limp Bisquit Korn shit.  Man that shit is so old and overdone.  No one has any originality any more and that's why the scene sucks so bad.  People are so close minded, they think that Metallica and Pantera are the heaviest things around.

If the music was more available I think there would be more true Metal Heads.
