MM -
Introduce the band members to us.
Jamie - Vocals
Pete - Drums/samples
Rick - bass/back vocals
Shaun - Guitar
MM - When was the band formed and how
did you all meet?
Pete and Jamie went to school together and we met Rick at college.
Originally we were in a band called Injustice, we had disagreements with
the guitarist and pinched Shaun from the band he was in (levanta) which
was a band we were playing a lot with at the time.
MM - How/why did you decide on the name 'Tripswitch'?
Basically we hated the name Injustice so Rick just came up with
Tripswitch which is also connected to one of his acid escapades.
MM - Are you signed/unsigned at the
moment?
At present we are unsigned, but have agreed to mail out new material on
a bi-monthly arrangement to about 6 labels.
MM - What bands/artists have
influenced you the most over the years?
Jamie - originally Pantera, Sex pistols, current - incubus, hed (pe)
Rick - originally RHCP, Therapy? current - Tool, King Prawn
Pete - Originally - Iron Maiden, Metallica, Pantera, Sepultura, current
- Spineshank, Snot, Deftones
Shaun - Originally - Machine head, current - Spineshank, Deftones,
Snapcase
MM - For anyone who isn't familiar
with the band and it's sound, how would you best describe it?
Spineshank meets Stampin Ground with the melodics of Taproot
MM - Who writes and composes the
songs you perform?
All of us
MM - What do the band have planned
for the future?
at the moment we are planning to record one song a month an mail them
out to various contacts, we want to gig as much as possible.
MM - What was the most memorable rock
concert you have attended?
Jamie - 1st Coal Chamber tour
Rick - Pitchshifter
Shaun - Slayer/Machine Head
Pete - Sepultura @ Brixton Academy
MM - What was the last CD you bought?
Shaun - Mudvayne
Jamie - Hed (pe)
Rick - A.T.D.I
Pete - Boy Hits Car, Dillenger Escape Plan, Boy Sets Fire
MM - A lot of bands in the UK are coming out with a harder heavier sound
than the current 'nu-metal' that's invaded these shores from the US. DO
you think this is a direct response to that radio friendly rap-rock
invasion?
Pete - Possibly, the British nu scene seems to have evolved out of the
hardcore scene, which has always done pretty well.
I think a lot of people are starting to get pissed off with the American
nu metal stuff. But them a hell of a lot more people like metal to like
all that stuff as well, so its pretty balanced.
Personally I like to think I support British bands as much as I can but
to be honest I don't like a lot of the music.
Rick - We have played with so many good British bands that deserve a lot
more attention.
MM - What band(s) would you most like
to tour or do a show with?
Jamie - Skindred
Shaun - Lost Prophets
Rick - Incubus
Pete - Pantera or Spineshank (haha as if)
MM - If you could meet any one person out of Rock History, alive or
dead, who would it be?
Jamie - Fred Durst and give him a smack
Shaun - Ditto
Rick - Hillel Slovak
Pete - Phil from Pantera or it would be cool to hang out with Neurosis
MM
- Has the internet influenced the way in which the band project their
music and image?
We have been a bit slow with the internet so far but our official site www.tripswitch.co.uk
should be ready really
soon and its looking cool. We put a couple of tracks on www.vitaminic.com
and they have done really well.
1 Hit Infliction entered the top 10 world metal charts for 2 days.
MM -The current controversy surrounding Napster - what are your views on
it?
Rick - Good for us shit for big bands
Pete - I think Napster is a fantastic idea and it will be ruined by the
time the record company's have finished with it. But I can see both
sides of the argument. I don't think the companies will ever resolve the
whole file sharing systems as already there are loads of similar sites.
As far as the band goes I have found our ep on their shared by quite a
few people and that's cool by us.
MM - How do you see rock music
progressing in the future?
Jamie - The way its heading at the moment it's just gonna get bigger and
bigger.
Rick - With us.
MM - What are you views on the
current craze of 'rap-rock', do you think it's just a phase or is it
here to stay?
Rick - It's gonna keep going due to all the old original rappers hooking
up with American rock bands to produce wank. Cypress Hill give it up.
Pete - It's already been around for so long I think there will always be
a place for it. Personally I've never liked a lot of it, I was never
into R.A.T.M. or Limp Bizkit stuff.
MM - You plan to release a new song
each month on your website, will these eventually make it on to a full
length album?
We are not totally sure, if we keep giving out a new free track every
time we have written one, every 1 will already have it so there would be
no point in doing a cd.
Perhaps every monthly track would not always be a new track, we might do
some live stuff or alternate demo's etc.
MM - Are you planning on touring
soon, and will you be coming to Newcastle?
Hopefully we will come to Newcastle, we will play anywhere so long as we
more or less cover our costs.
MM - Finally, is there anything you
would like to say to your fans?
Thanks for all the continued support, we are going to get better and
better, and keep buying British music.
