Andrew "Mac" McDermott - 26th January 1966  - 3rd August 2011  

 

 

Andrew "Mac" McDermott, lead singer with Swampfreaks and ex-vocalist with Powerworld, Sargant Fury and progressive metallers Threshold, sadly passed away on 3rd August 2011.

Mac performed in clubs in the North East of England laying in such bands as Harvest, Renegades, Eliminator and Mr President in his early years before moving to Germany to join the band Sargant Fury.  After three albums the band dissolved and in 1998 Mac joined Threshold as their lead singer replacing Damian Wilson.

In 2003, Wieland Hofmeister asked Mac to join Yargos and he accepted.  They released their first album in 2005 and a second one in 2009.  In 2007, days before the 'Live Reckoning' tour with Threshold, Mac suddenly left the band.  

Mac joined Powerworld but according to statements from the band in June 2011, he suffered from serious health problems and had to leave the band.

Sadly Mac died on 3rd August 2011 from kidney failure after being in a coma for four days.

SPV and the whole team are very sad about a big loss. We can't find the right words in this moment. Our friend, brilliant musician and ex-singer of Powerworld, as well as Sargant Fury and Threshold , Andrew "Mac" McDermott passed away on August 3rd in England.

He succumb to a kidney failure after being four days in coma.

Our sympathy and condolence goes to his family.

The world lost a gently, nice, honest and warm-hearted person. We will miss him.

We are very sad about our big loss.  we can't find the right words in this moment.  Our Friend, brilliant musician and ex-singer Andrew "Mac" McDermott passed away yesterday.  He succumb to a kidney failure after being four days in coma.  Our sympathy and condolence goes out to his family.  The world lost a gently, nice, honest and warm=hearted person.  We will him.
