About:
I
thought it was about time I introduced some of our Mayfair Mall Zine
readers to some of the fabulous Irish bands that I have come across. I
don’t profess to be an expert, music scout or completely in the
know, however any Irish band that myself or my other half come across
in our travels, we will try and introduce you to!!. Therefore we
would now like to introduce you to Graveyard Dirt. Fibbers
Sept 12th 2009 Formed
in Donegal in the Northern corner of Ireland, Graveyard Dirt already
have a large following local and universal following as well as having
a large following, but being honest, I hadn’t heard much about this
band until a recent outing to the Dublin Day of Doom festival which
was co-headlined by Esoteric and The Lamp of Thoth. Graveyard
Dirt hit the stage prior to Esoteric and I have to say I was
pleasantly surprised. My experience of Doom to date has been
Candlemass (in other words I have no experience!!). Graveyard
Dirt certainly opened my eyes. They played a very tight set and
got a great reaction from the crowd. Shadows
of Old Ghosts EP Since seeing them live I have managed to get a copy of their 2007 EP ‘Shadows of Old Ghosts’. It is 34 minutes long and only 3 songs, which seems to be the Doom thing to do!! To me, it is beautiful melodic, deep, emotional and extremely well written. Similar to early Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride etc, but with their own original sound. The CD is well produced and shows off the musicianship of each member and the vocalist’s ability to change his style throughout each song without loosing any of the dark atmosphere. |
