On a bloody cold Friday 13th, Maidstone rocked and head-banged to the beginning of a new monthly metal night. The place was the Babylon Live Lounge, in conjunction with The Pandemonium Club, and people slowly made their way from pub to club. Splitting the work between two DJs, DJ less than cheese was the first up. Playing punk/ska and all of the more bouncy stuff, he opened to a quiet crowd, which was repeated with his later set. The only problem was the top end kept getting higher and higher, nearly squealing in places, but these are teething problems. The birthday party who joined us seemed to enjoy the punk, spinning round the pole until they broke it on the ceiling! Taking over the rest of the night was DJ Hybrid. Mixing mainstream metal with stuff people haven’t really listened to, he got the crowd up and moving with a new and old mix of music. After a long list of requests punctuated with an attempt at musical education, the night slowly came to a close, with the die-hard crowd staying to the end. This was a happy ending, as MALICIOUS will now become a regular night in Maidstone, feeding the metallers of Kent and beyond! Review by: Kerry Henderson |
